Notice to Horsemen & Trainers

(UPDATE AS OF 4/25/2016)

(1) On March 25, 2016, the ARCI made revisions to its “Controlled Therapeutic Medication Schedule for Horses” which you can find below.

Regulatory thresholds have been added for the following medications: 1) Cimetidine; 2)Ranitidine; 3) Cetirizine; and 4) Guaifenesin.

These new drug thresholds will NOT trigger a positive test call until June 9, 2016. The Commission will notify trainers when they have a test that will cause a positive after June 9, 2016.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Any test that would have been a positive prior to the rule change will still be positive during the transitional period.

(2) Also on March 25, 2016, the threshold levels have changed for the following:

1) Omeprazole from 1 ng/mL of urine to 10 ng/mL of plasma or serum
2) Xylazine from .01 ng/mL of plasma or serum to 200 pg/mL of plasma or serum

House Bill 986 was voluntarily withdrawn on Monday May 2, 2016.  Thank you for contacting the members of the House Appropriations committee and asking them to support Louisiana Horsemen.  The Video Poker funds that are dedicated to supplement purses for Louisiana Bred horses will remain.  Communicating your position to your Representatives is vital to our industry.   Through the hard work of our Members, Board, President, and Staff, Louisiana will continue to be one of the top Horse Racing destinations in North America.

THANK YOU,
